Blood Orange Julius (copycat)

by mrfarmersdaughter.com

Orange Juliuses were a huge part of my teen years at the mall. It was often the first thing we went for when we hit it on a Friday night. Of course, back then, I had no idea what was in it and why should I? I had no allergies, no digestive issues, no problems with food back then at all. In fact, I could’ve eaten whatever I wanted and still not gained a pound. Oh, those were the days …. When I talk about “The Good Old Days” those are the times I’LL be referring to!

If you’ve never had an Orange Julius, they are sweet, frothy and just a little bit tangy. The perfect treat for a summer afternoon.

Being a foodie, of course, I couldn’t settle for a normal rendition of this mall classic. I wanted to step it up a notch so the last couple winters I’ve been making myself Blood Orange Juliuses as soon as Blood Oranges hit the stores. Even in the middle of winter, they’re delicious!

It’s surprising how simple the recipe is. Just a few ingredients and a powerful blender will make this frothy drink in no time flat. Of course, mine has no additives so if you don’t drink it right away you may get a little bit of separation in the drink. No worries. If you have some lecithin (I use this for some shakes I make) you can add a ½ teaspoon and it will help keep it blended. If you don’t have lecithin, just give it a good stir and you’ll be all good again.
