We saw lavender for days … a little picture tour of two two Bucks County lavender farms.
Last weekend my friend and I took a little jaunt down the road to Bucks County. When I say down the road, what I really mean is about two hours east. Since she and I share many of the same values and a similar lifestyle there was no end to the subjects we chatted about on the way there. With the sunny weather and good conversation, the time went quickly.
The first place we visited was Carousel Lavender Farm in Mechanicsville. The drive on back roads was lovely. We were there at peak bloom for the purple lavender but were just a little early for the white variety. A few rows of purple lavender had already been trimmed but it was great to see the variety in sizes of both new plants, one year plants and mature plants, as well as the trimmed version.
The bees buzzed around the lavender blossoms with abandon and visitors strolled through the grounds snapping photographs while a group painted in the gazebo. The view of the private gardens were inspirational and reminded me to not plant morning glory in my garden anymore. It was in every flower and vegetable bed in the garden. I’m sure it will be lovely but I’m just not up for a fight like that anymore. I prefer plants that play nice with others … like lavender.
Carousel also offered glimpse at a beautiful horse, a few very fat donkey and some chickens. Some more of my favorites!
We also visited Peace Valley Lavender Farm, only about 15 minutes away from Carousel in Doylestown. They must have wonderful soil for lavender growing in that area that they have farms so close together. While Peace Valley’s farm wasn’t as large as Carousel, the gift shop didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed lavender soda and lavender chocolates.
The weather was spectacular, the company fun and the lavender inspiring. Adding more lavender to my garden has just been moved up on the list of things to do!
