Traditional Fruity Red Sangria

by mrfarmersdaughter.com

Welcome to fall! Well, here in PA it was 97˚ today but you know what I mean. As soon as we start getting stuck behind school busses, it’s fall for me. Nevermind that it still feels like the surface of the sun outside, it’s September and that means apples!

I love apple flavored anything. I just don’t love raw apples themselves so this recipe forgoes them in favor of an apple soda. Dry Sparkling Fuji Apple Soda was a great way to add that fall flavor without having the crunchy apples interrupt the smooth flavor of the Red Sangria. Now, hey, if you love apples, feel free to put them in this recipe!

It calls for four cups of fruit all together so you can mix and match whatever you have on hand of make it super colorful with a nice variety. Just make sure whatever fruits you use are organic. A lot of the fruits I used in here are on the Dirty Dozen list and carry loads of toxic pesticides on the outside of their skins. And, for some it’s not only skin deep. The fruit will be soaking in a liquid (alcohol) that can break down those pesticides into the liquid giving them a straight shot to your body. This is a great reason to choose an organic wine too but they’re less readily available. If you can find an organic red wine, this is a great recipe to use it in just in case you don’t love it, the extra ingredients will boost the flavor factor of average wine.

We’ll likely have a few more weeks of warm weather here in PA so this’d be a great recipe to have on hand for those impromptu parties or night around the fire pit. That’s what we plan on doing as soon as this humidity drops down past 100%! It’s killing us.

Feel free to use your favorite fruits in this one! I'm not a fan of raw apples so this uses an apple soda that lends the flavor without the crunch!

  • 2 bottles Dry Sparkling Fuji Apple Soda
  • ½ cup raw honey
  • ¼ cup gingered Brandy
  • ¼ cup Triple Sec
  • Assorted organic fruits, about 4 cups: grapes, strawberries, oranges, limes, lemons, cherries, etc.
Instructions

  2. Serve by scooping out a few pieces of fruit into each glass, add ice and pour Sangria over it.
