If it’s July, that means Family Days on the Farm is coming up quickly!
Once again I will be attending as a vendor for CARE, an association focused on providing its members with nutritionally-dense foods. If you saw this blog post, stop by our table and say, “Hi!”
If you’ve never attended “Family Days,” as its affectionately called, it’s looking to be a beautiful summer to do so. This southern, Lancaster County event is geared towards the Plain community of Amish and Mennonites but all are welcome for FREE. There is no entry fee and you’ll be parking in a cow field, so come! It’ll be fun!
Family Days celebrates nutritionally-dense foods, sustainable agriculture, gardening and home-making like canning and preserving. There are tents for sessions so the event is rain or shine. If it looks like rain, no worries. There are plenty of places under cover, just bring your rain boots and an umbrella. The information you go home with will be worth it!
Breakfast and lunch are served on Saturday by donation. The families that provide this food are sacrificing their time and marketable items to feed attendees so please be generous with your donation. Quality food, free of GMOs and harmful chemicals, is not cheap to produce.
As an example of some of the sessions, you can learn to train a six year old Mustang (doesn’t that sound like fun!?), learn to make water kefir, begin backyard composting, cure meat, learn more about lyme disease, start a garden for better health and much more!
Friday evening’s keynote speaker (5:00 pm – 8:00 pm) will be Gilbert Hostetter speaking about “How our farming practices affect our health.” Jerry Miller will be the Saturday keynote speaker (11:40 am – 1:00 pm) speaking about “Community Values.”
