Whenever my husband asks me where I want to eat out I always choose our local Irish pub that serves the most delectable hot wings. I love everything about their wings, until now. These Sweet Heat, Buffalo Hot Wings are the best I’ve ever had! My son helped me eat this tray after we were done with the photos and after a few bites he asked what I did to them. I told him I added a little extra something. 😉
He agreed, best he’s had! He loved the addition of a little sweetness to balance the heat. I ended up making them the next day too because I couldn’t have another two pounds of wings sitting in the freezer doing nothing! They needed to be immabelly.
I realize there are many recipes for hot wings out there but all the best we’ve ever had/made have been made with Frank’s hot sauce. I don’t know what makes that crack sauce so perfect but it is. I use that in this recipe because there is no substitute and until I can grow my own cayenne peppers and make my own “Frank’s” without burning my eyeballs out, I’ll continue to use it.
This is another simple recipe because apparently I’m into simple these days. The wings are baked until they’re cooked through then broiled for a few minutes until they’re browned. The sauce is also heat and eat. Serve this with blue cheese dressing, a salad (and a good movie) and you have a great Saturday night meal without having to pay the server a tip.
- 3 lbs. wing sections
- salt & pepper to season
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup Frank’s hot sauce
- 1 Tbls. maple syrup (For THM, use 1 Tbls alternative sweetener and ½ tsp. maple flavoring)
- Heat oven to 400˚. Use convection, if you have it.
- Spread out wings on large sheet pan so that they’re not touching.
- (I use a sheet with a grate overtop so they get crispy on all sides)
- Bake wings for 15 minutes, turn over and bake for another 15 minutes.
- Turn oven to broil.
- Move wings to top shelf and broil for about 5 minutes or until as brown as you want them to be, watch them carefully.
- For the sauce:
- Melt butter.
- Add hot sauce and maple syrup (or alternative).
- Stir well.
- Drizzle or drench wings in sauce.
- Serve with blue cheese dressing.
